The Bible asks you to be ready to explain when asked why you are hopeful. and do it with kindness.
But in your hearts sanctify Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give a defence to everyone who asks you the reason for the hope that is in you. But respond with gentleness and respect, 1 Peter 3:15
So I thought I will share with you the promises of God and the verses that I hold on to for my dear life. With out these I would be lost. In fact I try and memorise as many of them so that when in darkness my heart can still hear the echo of these promises. Hope you can find comfort in them too. First let me start by saying my hope is in him:
Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Psalm 25:5
Promises that assure I have been saved.
- For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that everyone who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16
- For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13
- Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9
To know by believing Christ I am now a child of God, a co-heir with Christ
- But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,John 1:12
- The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,Romans 8:16
- And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. Romans 8:17
He has redeemed me with his blood and washed me off all my sins once and for all
- If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
- And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:10
I now have no guilt nor feel condemned. No guilt in life, no fear in death
- Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Romans 8:1
- “If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31
He does good in all things- so I can trust him even in my suffering. In fact I can rejoice in my suffering.
- And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28
- “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” 2 Corinthians 12:9.
- And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.1 Peter 5:10
- Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Matthew 5:10-11
- “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the LORD delivers him out of them all” (Psalm 34:19)
I can hope in what is unseen- in things to come.
- For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.Romans 8:18
- blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:29
- But he said, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.” Luke 18:27
It is He Holds me now. Nothing can separate or snatch me from him. My soul is anchored to Him
- For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.Romans 8:38-39
- I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. No one can snatch them out of My hand. 29My Father who has given them to Me is greater than all. No one can snatch them out of My Father’s hand. John 10:28
- We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus our forerunner has entered on our behalf. Hebrews 6:19-20
If you trust in Him all things will be given. All things are from him, through him and for him.
- But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
- If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. John 15:7-8
- He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Romans 8:32
- “My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19
- “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Matthew 7:7
He reassures me always
- Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light. Matthew 11:28-29
- It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
- He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”Revelation 21:4
- But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? (Matthew 6:28–30)
He takes care of not just me but my family too
- And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.” Acts 2:38-39
- And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”Acts 16:31
He promises to keep me at peace and I have no fear because He is in me.
- “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27 NIV
- Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10
- Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4
- Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-9
- Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
- Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. (Matthew 6:34)
He is a faithful God and will keep his promises. He finishes what he starts
- He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. 1 Thessalonians 5:24
- “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” Philippians 1:6
He has promised to come for us again and we will be in eternal communion with Him
- In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. John 14:2-3
- Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21
