Walking with God, with Christ, is an often used phrase. But what does it mean? What are the implications? While there is no doubt walking holding our Father’s hands is the best confidence we can have as a Christians, it is also important to remember that thus walk is not without troubles. For, to walk with Jesus is to walk on the narrow path to the narrow gate- But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-14
To walk with God means that you and God are in agreement about your life. “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3, KJV). To walk with God means you have aligned your will with His and seek every day to consider yourself “crucified with Christ” (Galatians 2:20). (https://www.gotquestions.org/walk-with-God.html)
The secret place is not the destination; it is only the catalyst. It is designed of God to establish us in an intimate friendship with him that is walked out through the course of our everyday lives. The goal we’re after is an everyday walk of unbroken communion with our Lord and friend. ( https://www.christianitytoday.com/biblestudies/articles/theology/secret-of-walking-with-god.html)
So let us explore what this ‘walk’ looks like from the scriptures:
Forget your desires and worldly pleasures!
- But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. Galatians 5:16-25
- Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. 1 John 2:6
Walk with purpose!
- For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10
- Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16
Walk in Humility!
- He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
- I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:1-32
Walk in obedience to God!
- And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. Ezekiel 36:27
Walk in the light, not darkness!
- For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7
- For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. Ephesians 5:8
Walk in Love!
- And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:2
- But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22
Walk in Freedom!
- For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.Galatians 5:1
